#Will battery buddy extend life of battery 2015 how to#
Since more voltage into these pickups gives more headroom, one of these days I'll be looking for instructions on how to make an 18V battery pack that fits in the 9V compartment. Hadn't heard of that one before, and I've spent a lot of time geeking out on gear that should have been spent practicing. I have many "pedals" to choose from, so I don't need to go out of my way to get a nearly-dead battery for a different sound, though it's cool that that's yet another way to go at it. With regards to using old batteries in pedals: since I use modelling, the last thing I want to do is add another variable, so I'd like to keep things as predictable as possible. As for the nearly-dead-battery thing, that doesn't work with these pickups, they just start sounding thin, ratty, and distorted. I'm thinking Lithium batteries are probably the best best, since realistically I don't see myself changing these more often than every few months, so the added cost isn't likely to be a big deal. Wow, this sure garnered a lot of replies. I'd love to try their 9V lithiums for the stuff I do at work but I don't think I could justify the price premium they carry since I buy in bulk.

I do remember playing around with some AA lithiums years ago and did notice a significant increase in battery life for some portable electronics. I don't have any experience with Energizer higher power versions (sold under the industrial branding) or their titanium or lithium variants for regular usage, at least in the 9V flavor. Standard Energizer batteries far pretty much the same as the copper top Duracell with rapid voltage decay. They also last longer, though specifically it is hard for me to quantify. The Procell/Quantum batteries fare better as they have a distinct transition period which allows for knowing when to replace it before it is dead.

This can wreck havoc if you're using them in things like microphones for a live event and they may not last a good break to swap them.

If the life span of the battery in the equipment is 5 hours, it'll indicate that it is fresh up until the last 30 minutes. There is little to no time indicating that the battery has been partially used. This manifests in a quick transition form "OK" to "time to replace" to dead.

Mainly there is a rapid decay in voltage output of the copper top near the need of the battery's life.

I get to deal with some professional audio equipment and there is a distinct difference between the standard Duracell coppertop and the Duracell Procell/Quantum.
